Laboratories for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Technion, Haifa, Israel, 1964-1967

The Faculty of mechanical engineering is composed of several interconnected pavilions two-three storeys high. They are based horizontally on a 45° structural grid of 2,62 m and vertically on exterior bearing walls of concrete folded slab precast elements 4,24 m high, 14 cm thick, triangular in shape, and filled in with narrow jalousie windows between the concrete elements. The Laboratory building here published has been designed as a prototype for the other Faculty buildings: the ground floor serves mainly as an area for heavy mechanical equipment, sanitary installations, and electrical wiring. The first floor contains several laboratory units and a large crane hall covered by a prismatic slab roof and connected to the upper court work through two concrete bridges.
